What do you say

What do you say to someone who has lost
a parent, a sibling, a spouse?
What can you do when you know they dread facing
that first night in an empty house?

Is it more helpful to chatter awhile
of trivial matters inane
Or does sharing stories of happier times
aid in easing the pain.

Each person is different, but one trait we share
desire to comfort a friend
So we say pretty words and send pretty flowers
and offer support without end.

We share in the grief, but feel helpless inside,
praying God will show the way
To get through the grieving, help them to heal
grant strength to get through day by day

In their own time ... the teardrops will slow ..and the sun will shine through once again.
