Mother Nature had a Festival She knew just what to do. Invitations were delivered by a breeze, all crisp and new. Trees began to don their gowns of scarlet and of gold Accessorized with greens and browns Such beauty to behold! Pumpkins waited patiently For carving to begin Fragrant apples blushed prettily Knowing soon someone would pick them. The Burning Bush and Asters, Mums and Dahlias flaunt their grace A canopy of deep blue sky Providing ample space. Old Sol sent down a gentle warmth Illuminating all Ah yes, it was a huge success, This Gala known as Fall. Now the party’s over Like rain the leaves come down. Scattered like confetti, A carpet on the ground. Squirrels scamper, scurrying, darting all about. Birds join in a formation, ready to move out. Nothing lasts forever This season too must go. Old Man Winter is preparing to bring his gift of snow. © Sharon Langan Oct. 24, 2001 |
