Duke
Today the thunder roared
And I thought of you, my furry friend.
How you shook and cowered
until the storm would end.
You would sit up and beg
for me to make it go away.
I couldn't, so you would nuzzle
'neath my legs ,and there you'd stay.
Or if the storm came in the night ,
you would bang against the bed
Staring intently at me
until I stoked your head.
My tears silently mingle
with the rain now falling down.
I know you're safe in Heaven but
I sure miss having you around.
